About the Book

Edward Teach is a real Banker Colonial Spanish Mustang from Corolla North Carolina. He did in fact experience a life threatening trauma and was removed from the beach.  His story is fiction, but it offers a better understanding of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) through the eyes of a horse.

My intent for writing about PTSD was to educate readers, thereby helping to heal children, adults and families. The hoped outcome is to promote conversations about Edward Teach’s experiences in a less clinical and matter of fact way.  Although science may not agree, I believe some animals can also show PTSD symptoms from traumas. This makes training more difficult.  Think about the wild mustangs out west and how they must feel when chased by helicopters for round ups.

Now, facts – PTSD is a mental health disorder that some people may develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event …[omitted some text that describes specific trauma causes].  Not everyone develops this illness after a trauma.

More than half of Americans have had a traumatic event in their lives.  PTSD may cause upsetting memories, edgy feelings, sleep problems, social isolation, and more.  If these feelings last longer than a few months, then one may be suffering from PTSD.  Symptoms may start later, or may come and go over time.

The good news is that treatment can make symptoms less intense or alleviate them altogether.  Treatment provides tools to manage symptoms so you can live your life in a healthy effective manner.  If you or someone you know are experiencing symptoms, please seek medical assistance.  You could help save a life.

If needed, call the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK.
